Personal Assistant Job Description

  • A PA is the right hand to a senior executive or manager.
  • As well as providing day-to-day administrative/secretarial support you’ll often find that your boss will rely heavily on you, trusting you to organise a range of aspects of their professional (and sometimes personal) life.
  • You will be responsible for taking care of administrative tasks such as screening phone calls, taking dictation and dealing with incoming communications, organising meetings and diaries .
  • PA’s need to have great business sense, know the organisation and its workings inside out and be able to co-ordinate projects, presentations and work with others.
  • You will need have the following essential attributes: discretion, efficiency, confidence, great time management and assertiveness.
  • You'll need to build a great rapport with your manager and have a knack for “upward management” (in other words be able to manage your boss) - This means knowing where you can effectively relieve their workload and knowing your own strengths and your manager’s needs exceptionally well.

Salary Information

  • Starting salaries for PA's can range from £20,000 to £25,000 
  • More senior PA jobs can earn in excess of £35,000 to £40,000 a year.*
  • PA salaries are often dependent on the industry: the media or charity sector tends to pay less than the financial or commercial sector.
